A project by an artist from Rancagua was chosen by the jury:

In the seventh edition of the urban art festival “Hecho en Casa Entel (in Enligh Homemade Entel)”, the online voting by the public to choose the five finalists of #IdeasTorreEntel exceeded all expectations with more than 26,300 votes.

After holding a contest open to the community and receiving more than 1,700 ideas to intervene the Entel Tower, the urban art festival has a new winner. The more than 1,000 works proposed became 10 shortlisted, which after a week of online voting and 26,361 votes resulted in 5 finalists, to be evaluated in the last instance by the jury of Hecho en Casa Entel 2019.

The winner was chosen among the “Biblioteca” (“Library,”) which aimed to fill the Entel Tower with books; an “O.V.N.I.” (“U.F.O.”), which installed a flying disc with incandescent light; the “Casa en el Árbol (“House in the tree”), which recalled the typical childhood dream house; the proposal “Te invito a jugar” (“I invite you to play”), which placed swings on the sides of the building; and “Bloquentel”, which transformed it into a game of colored blocks.

The jury unanimously decided that the winner was the idea of “Bloquentel” by Julio Jeanmaire from Rancagua, who will carry out this traditional game of physical and mental ability in a very colorful way in the Tower. “I have always been a fan of the festival, I have been following them for years and with this opportunity I am really fulfilling a dream. I’m very excited about everything that’s to come” says the winner, who had great support in his region during the citizen voting period.

“We are very happy with the participation and interest of the people for this project that every year takes over the city with innovative urban art interventions, and that motivates us to continue challenging ourselves to surprise them more and more”, says Payo Söchting, artistic director of the festival.

“The Entel Tower is a central part of our company’s history and has become an emblematic building in our city. There are countless stories around it and thousands of people see it every day, which is why we decided to incorporate it as a central part of the Festival Hecho en Casa Entel”, says Manuel Araya, Entel’s Regulation and Corporate Affairs manager.

The final decision was made by the jury composed of the Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage, Emilio de la Cerda; photographer and plastic arts graduate María Gracia Subercaseaux; gallery owner and art curator Patricia Ready; architect and urban planner Pía Montealegre; and journalist and founder of Santiago Adicto, Rodrigo Guendelman.

Thus, “Bloquentel” will join the list of outstanding works such as Mariposa Chilensis (Chilensis butterfly), by Valeria Merino (2017), and Pájaro Carpintero ( Woodpecker) by Mauricio García (2018).
