With the objective of facilitating internet access to homes located in areas with low penetration or that do not have other alternatives in terms of supply or quality, Entel continues to advance in the deployment of its fixed wireless broadband service for the home, in conjunction with a digital literacy campaign.
This Tuesday, the Intendancy of the region, together with the telecommunications company, launched the service in the Region of Arica and Parinacota, which currently has a fixed internet penetration of 53.14%, which rises slightly to 55.73% if only the city of Arica is considered.
The activity was attended by the regional governor, María Loreto Letelier; the seremi of transport and telecommunications, Alfredo Araya; Manuel Araya, Entel’s manager of regulation and public affairs; and Entel’s director of public affairs and institutional relations, Claudio Anabalón, together with neighborhood leaders and other local authorities.
The project contemplates a total investment of more than US$ 250 million and will allow reaching a universe of almost three million homes throughout the country by 2021, with a high-speed connection, and benefiting sectors that today cannot enjoy the benefits of technology.
The Intendant of Arica and Parinacota, María Loreto Letelier, stated that “the steps taken by Arica in terms of fixed internet penetration have been modest, maintaining a significant digital gap, which is accentuated in sectors with less economic possibilities and rural areas. Therefore, we value this public-private approach, which is aimed at facilitating access to digital technology, mainly in places where hard-working families in our region live”.
Likewise, the regional head pointed out that “President Sebastián Piñera is very interested in building a high-speed digital highway, which will light up the regions and in this context, we have a great opportunity to get closer, from the northern end of the country, through digital technology, to the great national and foreign centers of interest, because today having a better connection also means having more and better possibilities of development”.
Claudio Anabalón, Entel’s Director of Public Affairs and Institutional Relations, emphasized that “the deployment of our Fixed Wireless Broadband service will allow us to serve thousands of homes that today have difficulties in accessing this technology and democratize the offer in this area”.
To access the home internet service, the main requirement is to verify that the home has access to the network that is currently being deployed. However, as it is a totally wireless alternative, it is not necessary to carry out the wiring of the fixed internet services or the visit of technicians for its implementation, it is only required to have an electrical connection and the user can make the installation directly.
