The initiative will benefit more than 70 thousand households in the region:

Currently 44.8% of households in the country do not have access to a fixed internet connection, there are still 200 communes with less than 20% penetration. In the Antofagasta Region the gap is 39.12%.

With the aim of facilitating internet access to homes located in areas with low penetration or that do not have other alternatives in terms of supply or quality, Entel continues to advance in the deployment of its fixed wireless broadband service for the home, in conjunction with a digital literacy campaign.

This Thursday, the Intendancy of the region, together with the telecommunications company, launched the service in the Antofagasta Region, which currently has a fixed internet penetration of 60.88%.

The activity was attended by the region’s mayor, Marco Antonio Díaz; Entel’s manager of regulation and corporate affairs, Manuel Araya; the president of the Corvallis neighborhood council, Aliro Díaz; and Entel’s director of public affairs and institutional relations, Claudio Anabalón, together with other local authorities.

The project contemplates a total investment of more than US$ 250 million and will allow it to reach a universe of almost three million homes throughout the country by 2021, with a high-speed connection, and to benefit sectors that today cannot enjoy the benefits of technology.

The mayor of the region, Marco Antonio Díaz, said that “the steps taken by Antofagasta in terms of fixed internet penetration have been relevant. However, there is still a significant digital gap, so we need to strengthen the public-private approach to bring technology closer to the people, and therefore, provide them with greater development” said the mayor.

[

Claudio Anabalón, Entel’s Director of Public Affairs and Institutional Relations, emphasized that “the deployment of our Fixed Wireless Broadband service will allow us to serve thousands of homes that today have difficulties in accessing this technology and democratize the offer in this area”.

To access the home internet service, the main requirement is to verify that the home has access to the network that is currently being deployed. However, as it is a totally wireless alternative, it is not necessary to carry out the wiring of the fixed internet services or the visit of technicians for its implementation, it is only required to have an electrical connection and the user can make the installation directly.
