This Saturday begins wintertime:

Entel gives a series of tips to configure electronic devices without problems and to sleep soundly.

The day is coming! Hated by some and awaited by others. This Saturday, April 6, marks the beginning of wintertime in various regions of the country, a change that brings with it a peculiarity: it is the only day of the year with 25 hours, since the modification implies a delay of 60 minutes in our clocks. Thus, on that day, when it strikes 23:59, it will return to 22:59 hours.


This measure applies between the regions of Arica and Parinacota and Aysén, since for Rapa Nui and Salas y Gómez Island, this time change will be configured differently, since they will have to set their clocks back 60 minutes at 22:00 hours on Saturday. The time change does not apply to the Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica; in these areas the clocks will have to be kept at the current time.


In this new edition, the campaign truck, which is enabled as a collection point, will visit a total of 106 localities in the country, between Arica and Punta Arenas. In addition, part of the route will again be made in a fully electric vehicle, which reduces the environmental impact in terms of CO2 emissions. In 2023, the tour traveled through 56 localities and collected 23 tons of unused devices.


How to adjust technological devices?


Although most smart devices come with a default automatic configuration, we should not trust, as this is not always activated. “Therefore, the call is to be attentive to phones, tablets and computers, and if necessary, make the update manually” , explains the assistant manager of Products and Terminals of Entel, Ignacio Reyes.


How to do it? This will depend on the operating system of the technological devices. However, the steps to follow are very simple.

- For Apple devices such as iPhone, you have to go to the phone’s Settings and select the option General > Date and Time > activate Set Automatically.

- In the case of devices with Android operating system, it will be necessary to go to the Settings or Configuration section and select General Administration or Systems and Updates > Date and Time > activate Set Automatically option.


In turn, Ignacio Reyes himself mentions that “it is increasingly common to have smart devices connected to other electronic devices, and it is enough to make only one configuration. For example, the smartwatch is updated according to the time of the cell phone, and for those ‘smarthomes’ devices, as they are managed through an application on the phone, they are updated at the same time”.

Tips for adapting to the time change


Did you know that Android and iOS devices have sleep and sleep options in their settings? These help reduce distractions, before and during the time set aside for rest, depending on the sleep schedules you set. To activate them:

- For Android: Settings or Configuration > Modes and Routines option > activate Sleep option and make the corresponding modifications.

- For iOS: Health > Sleep option > activate Sleep option and choose the preferred times. On the other hand, in Settings > Approach > Sleep you will be able to choose those contacts that may interrupt your sleep hours, for example, family members, friends, etc.


Entel’s expert also recommends a responsible use of technology, for example, disconnecting from electronic devices at least 1 hour before going to sleep, to ensure a deep and replenishing sleep every day.
