• The initiative, which brings together Entel and the city’s municipality, seeks to encourage care for the environment and raise awareness about the negative effects generated by the use of plastic bags.

A project that hopes to contribute to the care of the environment and promote a more sustainable lifestyle in the Los Lagos Region, has brought together the Municipality of Puerto Montt and Entel, which today signed a collaboration agreement to distribute free of charge about 15 thousand reusable bags in various activities to be carried out during the year in the city.

The project - which has been carried out in Temuco and Rancagua, among other cities - aims to reduce the use of plastic bags and raise awareness of the damage that their indiscriminate use causes to the environment.

“This is an action that complements very well the efforts made by the municipality to make Puerto Montt a more sustainable and environmentally friendly city. We will continue working to minimize the use of plastic bags and therefore, to achieve this goal, the joint efforts of the municipality and private sector are necessary,” said Gervoy Paredes, mayor of Puerto Montt.

The mayor was joined by María Paz Arancibia, Entel’s regional manager, who commented that this project is part of the company’s sustainability strategy, especially in relation to environmental protection.

“Entel is committed to people and the environment. We understand that our responsibility must go beyond our operations and therefore, our mission is not only in technological connectivity, but also in connecting people with their environment. Therefore, we seek to contribute to having a cleaner country and that the next generations can lead a more sustainable life” said the executive.

The thousands of reusable bags will be distributed starting in March in various activities organized by the municipality and Entel.

This project began during the first half of 2016, when more than 50 thousand bags were distributed in the cities of La Serena, Coquimbo and Puerto Varas. In 2017, the initiative will continue adding cities, delivering 80 thousand bags in various regions.
